Studio J. Jih
Founded J. Roc Jih, Studio J. Jih operates in dialogue and in collaboration with others. They like things that are both and between. The practice is interested in cultures of form, both in the sense of architectural form and the material, constructive, identitarian, disciplinary, and regional cultures that choreograph, inflect, and inhabit it.
Studio J. Jih likes things that do double duty; things that are pragmatic and efficient, yet ambitiously sculptural. Their pedagogy and practice centers on cultures of form; the discursive relations of the architectural figure with material systems, geometry, cultural practices, and identity.
Their work has been recognized by numerous awards and publications, including a Progressive Architecture Award from Architect Magazine (2022), a Design Vanguard award from Architectural Record (2023), and J. was named amongst the Wallpaper* US400 creatives shaping America. Their work has been featured in CNN, The New York Times, Wallpaper*, and has been exhibited by the National Building Museum.
